The F-21 Kfir (lion cub) was built by Israeli Aircraft Industries. It is a all-weather, multi-role aircraft based on a modified Dassault Mirage 5. The Kfir entered service with the Israeli Air Force in 1975 and has been in many combat situations with Israel's neighbors. The Kfir was bought by Columbia, Equador, and Sri Lanka. It was also leased by the US Navy and US Marines as adversary aircraft for training from 1985 to 1989. About 220 Kfirs were built. The Israeli Air Force retired the Kfir in 1996.
